Cricket is a sport of English origin, which has become increasingly influenced by international interest. As commercial opportunities have arisen, the sport has made itself more appealing to its followers.

There is evidence to suggest cricket was played, in some form as long ago as the 11th century, but it was not until 1646 when the first organised game took place for a bet of twelve candles.

Cricket continued to develop for another hundred years or so without any standard written rules. The earliest laws of the game were formally composed in 1744. Although it would be another 43 years before any central governing body existed. In 1787 Marylebone Cricket Club (more commonly known as the MCC) was set

up at Lord s Cricket Ground to protect the standard laws of cricket.
The MCC was to be the international guardian of cricket for another two hundred years and it is still to this day, the copyright holder of the Laws of Cricket .

Barcelona, as a city, enjoys and promotes sports. Today, thanks in large part to the 1992 Olympic Games, a quarter of the city’s population now regularly does some type of sport and has included physical exercise in their habitual activities. The people of Barcelona have seized the city’s public spaces, squares, parks and new beaches, and turned them into focal points for sports activities. The City Council promotes and stimulates sport at all levels - from amateur to professional, from school to retirement, from ‘fun runs’ to summer activities by building and remodeling facilities, equipping districts and educational centers. Soccer is the favorite sport of Barcelona.

I moved to Scottsdale in August of 1976. So, some may call me a native. But to those of you who have never heard or Scottsdale, let me tell you why it s so famous. It was the winter home of Frank Lloyd Wright who built Taliesin West as his retreat. It was a local favorite of Charles Wrigley as well. More recently, it is home to Mike Tyson, Michael Jordon, Charles Barkley, and Muhammad Ali, who all have homes nearby. Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad, Poor Dad) and Go-Daddy (Domain provider) have their businesses here. It s the location for the TPC golf course, a favorite of the pro tour. We are the spring training home to the

San Francisco Giants and neighboring towns host the Chicago Cubs, along with over half the major league baseball teams. Next year, nearby Glendale will host a little event known as the Superbowl. We also hold the Barrett-Jackson auction of classic cars every year.
